Its possible that these people actually stuck 8 gigs of memory in their computers but... just didnt realize that its not compatible, and actually they only have 4...?

Kind of like how computers that run 32 bit OS's can have 8 gigs of ram in them, but only be able to actualy use/recognize 3.6 or whatever it is. Idk doesnt sound to me like the machine just simply wouldnt work if it had more than a 4 gig intsall of ram. just wouldnt use the rest imo.

Yes, that is entirely possible. Even though I can't imagine ever installing RAM and not immediately checking to see if it is all recognized.

I can imagine someone selling someone who does not know where to look more RAM and installing it for them. As you suspect, the PC will run fine - on 4GB of RAM. The other unmapped 4GB will just sit there drawing power.

And I will bet you a dollar that the rube will think their PC is running faster!

8GB of RAM is compatible with the Asus G50V, G50VT, G51VX laptops. Lots of people on notebookreview have done it with no problems. 800MHZ is the speed to get. But, 4GB DDR2 800MHZ SODIMM RAM modules are still stupid expensive.
