Cannot find RAM for my Asus G50VT-X1

Hi im trying to max out my Asus G50VT-X1 and I read the most RAM it can handle is 8gb of SO-DIMM DDR2 200-pin memory (total) at 800mhz.
I cannot find any 4gb modules to fit those specs however.
2 areas of debate may be what the max ram is, 4 or 8 gb and if the chipset can handle 667mhz or 800mhz but i dont want any debate about that unless you have some proof, links or otherwise that doesnt just redirect to another forum :P

But a link to such a RAM module would be appreciated.
Thanks !

Also, if you run Memtest86+ on your system it will display all the information you need about your current RAM, including manufacturer.

What is there to debate? As suggested, go to Crucial.com and enter in your system info. It will tell you exactly how many slots, how much per slot, and what the max is. It will show you compatible Crucial modules, which you can often find cheaper elsewhere, and you would also know the type so you can price shop where you normally buy computer products. There's little to debate.

Computer memory upgrades for ASUS G50Vt Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

Max RAM is given as 4GB (2X2GB). Crucial's listings tend to closely follow the manufacturer's.

It may be possible to go to 2X4GB, but it appears to be unsupported by Asus.

Thanks all for the input. The Crucial Scanner was very helpful for finding compatible RAM modules. Im still unsure of the maximum RAM however...Crucial says 4gb but Im finding a lot of 8 GB'ers ?
If its not supported then how are people running on 8?
Btw, I made very sure that these 8gb'ers have the EXACT same model (Asus G50VT-X1)
The may have had hardware upgrades but the RAM limit is defined by the motherboard which they all have the same. Can a BIOS Upgrade have anything to do with it?

It is possible that a BIOS update could enable more memory. If you are seeing varied reports, I'd go back to Asus and ask them officially.

Asus says 4GB max for the G50VT.
There are 4 Bios updates, none mention any RAM improvements.
Seems cut and dried. Sorry.

These people could've lied... for trouble's sake? Maybe a mastermind put 8GBs in his/her system and fried it, and to feel better about it he made multiple accounts on varied sites telling people he's running 8GBs so you'll bugger your system out? For fun, I put it there for fun...

Would running 8GBs of super slow RAM work somehow?

The limitation is typically in the chipset, the chipset driver, or the BIOS instructions. It is a matter of memory addressing at the hardware level. More addresses require more data that has to be stored in the limited ROM space designed on the chip. More space = more money.

All too many times we have seen people respond to a question on the interwebs with pure opinion, speculation, and guesses. They do not know, but they think they know. Then if that opinion or guess gets passed around enough times it becomes yet another "false fact", like alligators in the sewer system.
