    External Monitor Hardware Problem

I have a really nice Westinghouse LCM-22w3 monitor that has a strange hardware issue. It was working fine until recently when it started having trouble turning on.

When I connect it externally to a computer sometimes it turns right on, but other times it flashes on so you can see the desktop for 1 second and then turns black again. Unfortunately this is what happens most of the time (it rarely stays on the first time).

To remedy this issue I've found that turning it back on when it turns off multiple times will eventually get the desktop to display without the screen turning off again. However this is extremely annoying as the amount of on/off trials I have to go through are arbitrary, and sometimes take so long to make it retain an image that I just give up.

I don't know much about monitors, and don't even know if I would have any luck posting this in the Seven Forums Hardware section, but I really want to be able to fix this issue myself as I am most definitely sure there is some type of solution out there.

Does anyone know what might be the cause of this and how I can go about starting to fix it? Also if this might be a possible capacitor issue or possibly something else?

I have been told just to throw it away if it doesn't work but I am determined to not let this magnificent piece of hardware go to waste as long as there is something I can do about it. And I am very willing to do whatever it takes.

If you have any insightful information at all, responses would be much appreciated. Thanks for the help.

This is a sure sign that the monitors is going bad...is it worth fixing. That depends on what is at fault. For a short term fix, I've heard that reducing the brightness helps. I just went through this with a 19 gateway monitor. I just replaced it. You could take to a repair shop and see if it's worth the cost of having it fixed versus replacing it.
