Swap out Motherboard,, Need to reformat? Im pretty sure from past experience that if i change from my Asus motherboard to a differnt brand board (gigabyte in this case) that i will have to wipe my drive (in this case SSD drive) with a fresh install of W7U is that correct?
Also the board i want to swap to is an SLI board which will be my first ever SLI set up,,, i do not have matching graphics cards but i do have 2 that are GeForce one being 512gb gddr3 and one being 256gb gddr3,, will that work or would i need matched cards??
Thanks in advance for any help! | My System Specs |

It can be done but I would advise against it, a clean install is always best with new hardware.

Ok so now i guess my next question to add to this is,, would it be worth it to change from my Asus M4A785-M ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS M4A785-M
To this Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 ??? GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM2 - GA-M55SLI-S4 (rev. 2.0)
Im not sure how to tell which is a better board,, the only thing i can tell is with the gigabyte i will now have SLI capabilities how ever this is a much older board than the ASUS so not sure if its worth doing the swap,,, any suggestions?? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number JRockZ OS Win 7 64 Ultimate CPU AMD 8350 Bulldozer 4ghz Motherboard Asus M5a97 R2 Memory 6gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770 Sound Card Board Monitor(s) Displays Dual Gateway 19" Screen Resolution 1440X900 PSU 750 Watt Thermaltake Tough Power Case Diablotek EVO Mid Tower Case CPA-6170 - 8X 120mm case fans Cooling Corsair Liquid Cooled Hard Drives OCZ Agility SSD Antivirus NAV Browser Always IE |

Understood it has what you need ATM
also if your cards aren't compatible for Sli you would be wasting your time anyway
But if you need to go with Gigabyte it seems to have some features that will be good for you | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me FX - Series Scorpious OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU Vishera FX 8350 Oc' 4.812Ghz 1.488 V-core full load 50c Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 2.0 Memory 16gb Corsair Vengeance ram 1600mhz Oc'ed to 1750mhz Graphics Card VisionTek HD7970 Ghz.ed Bios Crossfire 1150/1560 power 10% Sound Card AC97 Monitor(s) Displays 27" ViewSonic 1920/1080dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1080 27"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU HX1050w Corsair Silver 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case Thermaltake Element V Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Ocz Agility 120Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 25+ mb Antivirus WebRoot Spysweeper with Antivirus Browser IE-9, Chrome, Opera Other Info I have 2 systems FX AM3+ 8350-K15 Oc'ed 4.812Ghz AM2+ 965 BE Stock 3.4 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen |
