I'm running a Dell Studio 1558 with an ATI mobility Radeon hd 5 series dedicated graphics.
While I do realise that mobile graphics don't generally come with the possibility to upgrade, I was wondering how likely it is that I'd be able to upgrade this if I got my hands on a newer board.
I've got basic experience with components, have put a desktop together before but won't class myself as particularly technical hence the (perhaps) stupid question.
You cant do that with a Laptop, even if you could, it would cost as much as buying a new Laptop!!
Well it depends on money you want to spend, its very easy on a laptop to upgrade the hdd,ram and in some laptops the gpu's. Swapping out more then that is in my opinion a waste of money,because most laptops wont be able to upgrade that magnitude,and those that can will cost a fortune to upgrade,I have seen it's easier and sometimes (7/10) cheaper to buy a new,better laptop. You also risk the chance of completely frying your laptop after installing the new parts, chances are very good the screen will go first. So I wouldn't suggest trying this, unless your a pro at everything computer,and you know what to do if the worst happens, dont try it. But to answer your first quistion, yes,some laptops can swap it out, but please don't try this. If you want to,then upgrade the ram. Bur leave the rest as it is,and buy a better laptop when you need it.
That's what I figured. I've been checking specs but doesn't look like theres any compatibility across the model increments. Thanks for the reply.
