Problems playing BluRay disc in MATSHITA BD-CMB UJ141AL

Hi,

I recently bought an Acer Revo AL100 and it was able to play all of the BluRay discs that I asked it to. :)

I borrowed a copy from a mate and the Revo is able to detect that there is a disc in the drive, it chugs away for a couple of minutes and then I get a message that it was unable to download a BD-Live Update. Once I get this message the disc stops spinning and I don't get to watch my movie.

I get more or less the same results using the clear.fi application that came pre-installed, WinDVD Pro 11, PowerDVD 12 and Total Media Theatre 5 so I'm thinking that it's an issue with the hardware.

The drive is a MATSHITA BD-CMB UJ141AL and I've been unable to find firmware updates for it anywhere. Is there anything else I can try short of trying to swap the drive for a different?

What is the bluray movie you are trying to play?

Your BDROM drive has nothing to do with this problem.

The possibilities:

1. Your Clear-fi program may not be uptodate. In the Clear.fi program, click Settings and next Update. Click Yes to confirm and then Update Clear.fi to install the update. If it is uptodate and still not play the BD, contact ASUS Tech. Support. Sorry, ACER Tech Support and not ASUS.

2. Is your internet connection OK? Assuming it is OK, if the BD Live server is down then it will not download. So try the BD some other time. Ask your friend whether he is able to download the BD Live content and play the movie..

3. Check to see whether you can disable BD-Live in the Clear-fi program.

At the moment that is all I can think of.:)

As an experiment you can download and run the 21 day free trial of AnyDVDHD in the background. SlySoft Download | AnyDVD, CloneDVD, CloneCD, GameJackal, Any DVD, Clone DVD, Clone CD, Game Jackal

In the Bluray Video Settings of AnyDVDHD disable BD live and check whether you can play the movie.

Glad that it enabled you to view Avatar.:)

Now you know that it has nothing to do with your BDROM drive or hardware. The problem is with the bluray software players and the bluray movie disks. To cope up with the newer protection algorithms in movie BDs, the software players need patches from the vendors.

That is why I wanted you to update the Acer clear-fi software. By default, it is supposed to update automatically. If it does not, perhaps, you may need to update the Acerupdater itself. ( I am not sure whether Clear-fi itself is a BD Player - I do not have an Acer machine.) If even after updating, you are not able to play BD movies, you should take up the problem with ACER for if they provide you with the BD playing software, they also have to provide the necessary patches to play the newer BDs.

The software vendors - be it Cyberlink, Arcsoft, Corel, Nero or others - take their own sweet time to release patches for BDs coming out with newer protection algorithms. That is where Slysoft (AnyDVDHD) shines. Within days of a new protection algorithm BD hitting the market they release an update. But then it is subscription based and costs a bomb for a lifetime subcription.

( Though I am not an avid movie watcher, my two machines run licenced versions of anyDVDHD and my family members never ever have any problems playing any BDs or DVDs. Incidentally AnyDVDHD is also a ripper.)
