    RAID 1 with 1HDD and 1SSD

Is it possible to have a RAID 1 With 1 ssd and a hdd, will it reduce ssd performance. main reason is incase either one fails.

SSD behaves just as a disk. RAID 1 is mirroring as you already know.
    • reads are faster! It can balance the read request between SDD and HDD
    • writes are slower! It must be written twice.
And remember... mirroring is not a replacement for making backups. You still have to make backups.

yes but if either one were to fail, i could remove the faulty drive and operate the good one without raid

It's be very surprised if it would work, and I'd have no faith in it's stability either. Whenever you set up an array, you should use identical disks.

If I were going to set up a RAID 1 array, I would buy identical HDD and leave the SSD out of it.
