Brother Printer won't let me scan to my laptop.

[I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong forum category. I wasn't sure so I made a guess.]

Okay, so our house has a wireless printer - a Brother MFC-490CW Printer. It also comes with a scanner, copier, etc.
I had to reconnect to the printer, so I went to "Devices and Printers", right clicked the area and selected "Add Printer", then "Add network, wireless or Bluetooth printer", and then selected the Brother printer we have. I had it run a test print and it printed out fine.

I can still print from this laptop, but for some reason I cannot scan images to this laptop. When I go to the device itself and select "Scan", my laptop's name is not on the list of computers the scanner can scan the image to. I tried to be clever by going to Paint to see if I can scan from there, but the "From scanner and camera" option was greyed out and un-selectable.

I can't call Brother themselves to ask for help because, well, in the past their assistance hasn't really been helpful and all that fruitful. Perhaps there is someone here who can help with this, or can at least point me to a place that could give me assistance?

    Thank you. :)

I tried using the CD that contains the printer software, but when I tried to install, it gave me a message saying: "This CD does not contain drivers for your computer operating system. Please visit the Brother Solutions Center for the latest update information."

So I went to said site and tried downloading the software for my laptop. Except during installation I got two error messages, the first saying:
"An error occurred during the installation. Please restart your PC, ensure all active applications are closed - Then reinstall "MFL-Pro Suite".

    ISO15 - GetOsVersion -1 "

The second error message was pretty much the message except the last sentence, where it instead said: "ISO15 - GetMiscInfo - 1"

Lillliumsnow, From the brother web page for your printer. It does not have the drivers for windows 7. It does mention Vista which might work on your system. Some have done that for other drivers and had success but don't bet the farm that it will work on windows 7.
the brother page at Brother International - Multifunction Centers
    has the information.

It should be able to work because I've been able to print and scan from this very laptop before with the same printer. It's just that now it just won't let me scan for some reason.

LiliumSnow, Sometimes just a complete uninstall of the sofware and then a power off, then a re-install of the sofware does the trick.

    Solved

I had the same problem and found the answer:

Go into the MFLpro_c2 directory > select your printer name > go to the end of the listing and use that setup-exe.

Here is the Brother answer - but you can't find it searching on the error message - only by searching the GetosVersion term and looking for Brother in the link address!!

An excellent example of useless error messages in the code.
