WD Passport receiving power from laptop, but does not show up in win7
I have a Western Digital passport that I received (used) from my father-in-law. He gave it to me as I was taking up a contracting job in Afghanistan, and I put all of my movies/tv shows on it.
I had it connected to my HP laptop, and everything was working great, and then I received a message that references that windows doesn't recognize the device. This has happened in the past, I typically unplug the device and reboot. When I tried this, nothing happened. In fact, indicator light didn't come on at all. So I changed the cable out with one a co-worker had (she has a similar passport hard drive) and it successfully powered on.
The indicator light remains on (doesn't flicker) and I've tried it on 2 different computers, one running XP sp3 and the other Windows 7, both do the same thing. The indicator light remains on, and I feel the HDD running when I put my hand on it, but it will not appear in device manager or in computer. If it all possible I would like to obtain some kind of fix. Please let me know. Thanks!
