    Improving Laptop Hardware

Is there anyway I can build my own motherboard for my laptop to enable me to fit a faster more uptodate processor.Have contacted Toshiba but as my model is obsolete they do not want to know. The laptop in question is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-1FK and I have the full specification details for both motherboard and processor.Tried contacting Intel but as the motherboard is Toshiba's own they were unable to help.

Sure, if you have unlimited talent or money or both. Wave enough money around to the right people and you will find a taker.

Practically speaking, no---nothing you could do would be cheaper than buying a new laptop.

Tried buying a new Toshiba and paid £1,150 for one of their latest models. It was delivered on the Friday and I returned it on the Monday due to faults. This three year old model has been faultless and performance has been much improved since I doubled the memory and changed the hard drive for a solid state drive.

So why do you want to wreck it?

When you make the decision to buy a laptop, you are making the decision to give up any chance of system upgrades. By system upgrades, I mean what matters most, in CPU, motherboard, and graphics. A three year old laptop should still run very well, especially with memory and an SSD. That's what I use for my everyday work system. It's a Dell Latitude E6400 that's nearing 4 years old.

Any particular reason sticking with Toshiba? I know a lot of people with them, but I wouldn't recommend them. I have a dead one that is a few years old, fried CPU. Another victim of the dreaded AMD Turion x64 dual-core processor nightmares.

FWIW: I just ordered a new Toshiba X870 I configured and it is supposed to ship on the 28th. I hope that I have as good luck with this one as the other 8 that I have had. First was a 286 laptop and a 386 one.

PS: over $2K with my customization but should be worth it..

I actually have a Toshiba from 1996 that still runs perfectly, and even holds an hour charge on the battery yet! Windows 98, 64mb RAM, 4GB hard drive, 166MHz Pentium, LOL. Even has a lone USB port. I just know I've worked on a lot of them for friends (newer ones of course), most typically those AMD CPU's overheating, and hard drives failing.

My Toshiba laptop runs flawlessly too. I put a Vertex SSD in and it is now my fastest system (i5 and 6GB of RAM). Even my desktop with an i7 and 8GB of RAM cannot beat it - except for video encoding/editing..
