I want to purchase new ram for my laptop

I am getting ready to purchase my ram, and I was wondering if it's okay to purchase a set of 6400 (800+mhz) instead of 5300 (600+mhz) ram? My computer currently has 2gb 5300 (633mhz) 200-pin but I want to upgrade to 4gb 6400. but like I said, I don't know if I should purchase the 5300 or 6400. Sorry if this makes no sense. I am so tired right now.
