PCI-E Card USB 3 Upgrade to older motherboard and Win 7 Ult X86

    Hi

I just installed a Uspeed USB 3.0 PCI-E Card and Uspeed Front panel. I ran the setup provided and the drivers appeared to install ok. It didn't work so I uninstalled and tried again. This time the USB ports worked but I don't think I'm getting USB 3 speeds. In fact, I'm pretty sure, as I compared the same file downloaded to my computer from a USB3 Memory stick and vice versus using both USB3 and USB2 ports. The results were the same almost.

I wonder if there are any settings in Windows that might restrict the speeds the ports can work at? I've emailed the mnfr of the card and front port panel but I've heard their not to good at responding.

Anyone have any ideas or experience of these items? Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. Thanks.

You may try looking up the card on their web site and seeing if there are updated drivers. There usually are. In many cases the drivers on the provided disk are quite old. You may also look in Device Manager and look fot the pcie card or the USB3 hub and see if there are any yellow triangles on them and look at the properties to see if there are any error messages.

    Hi Essenbe

Thanks for replying. I googled Uspeed but no luck. There's a support email and telephone number but the phone is no longer in service and I haven't had a reply from the email. Their are a few reviews on Amazon.com which point to upgrading the firmware. I'm reluctant to upgrade the firmware until all other options are explored. Also, the firmware mentioned, appears to have been superceeded. As I don't have enough knowledge or information at present, I feel I should hold off for now. As I am new to Win 7, I have been exploring various areas of it. I seem to remember seeing a setting, limiting the amount of resources allowed to be used by USB ports, but I aren't sure. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but it never hurts to ask those who know more than I do.

Your transfer speed could be limited by the speed of the device. Check the device (e.g. with HD Tune) and you will see.

    Hi Essenbe

Yeah, I remembered to do that. Funny enough, I had to check I had a spare one before I bought the card. I haven't the ability to check the Voltage output at the port but I'm pretty sure it's Ok. I like the look of that HD tune Pro you suggested. It has a 15 day trial so I wrote asking them if it was a fully functioning trial or if certain applications were unavailable until registered. Reason I asked was, the trial I downloaded won't allow write to USB sticks. I tried to select it in options but it's greyed and gives me an error message. It also did it using USB 2 so it wasn't the USB 3 port or stick causing the error. Once I hear back, I might buy it. I get the feeling it could be very useful. Thanks for that.

Sorry, I gave credit to Essenbe for suggesting I try HDTune Pro. I sent them an email to ask if write to usb isn't included until you buy but no reply as yet. Once again, sorry for getting muddled up. Cheers

    This is weird

I just got an email saying Sardonicus had posted a reply. If he has, I can't see it or find it? Essenbe, how on earth did you find that page?? I Googled it, Asked it, Binged it and nothing like that came up! Cheers, I'll have a look around and see what I find.

Sheeesh! That was almost painful! Nice try Essenbe but the web sites a mess. I couldn't find my particular product and can't seem to link it with any of the products listed. I'll email them again and see if anyone bothers to reply. Thanks for all the help you've offered, it's appreciated.

No problem. Steve is a friend. He desserves credit.

PS: If you have problems finding a free HD Tune, I have an older, free HD Tune version on file. If needed, I can upload that for you. It is 14.4GB and will take some time.
