How do you reset (clear) all current USB drive letter assignments?

As a result of changing my external USB Hub controller from a CyberPower CP-H720P (USB 2.0 7-Port Hub w/Power Adapter) to a SIIG 06-0960A (USB 3.0 w/3-Ports & USB 2.0 w/3-Ports plus Card Reader w/Power Adapter), all of my original external USB drive letters were changed.

The following are my Original and New USB external device drive letters:

F changed to O – Port 7 Hub 3 – Patriot Memory (16GB USB 2.0 Memory)
G changed to N – Port 2 Hub 4 – Desktop (Seagate USB 2.0)
H changed to M – Port 1 Hub 4 – Free Agent Desktop (Seagate USB 2.0)
I changed to K – Port 4 Hub 3 – MyBook 1130 (Western Digital USB 3.0)
J changed to L – Port 3 Hub 3 – MyBook 1140 (Western Digital USB 3.0)

I need to know what steps I must perform to clear (reset) my current USB drive letter assignments so that I can begin anew starting with the first available drive letter, drive letter “F”.

Thank you to all for assistance in this matter, Rick Flack.

Hello RFlackAttack, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use either OPTION in the tutorial below to change the drive letters back.

Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7

Hope this helps,

Hi RFLackAttack,

It is already past midnight and so I do not want to write a long post.

As I perceive, your query to clear all current drive letter assignments has a deeper meaning than just reassigning the drive letters.

I shall redirect you to have a look at this:

OK. Download and run v 0.8.1 of the drivecleanup.zip. And if you so wish, you can right click in the appropriate .exe file and run as administrator, instead of dropping it into the System32 folder. After the clean up act, reboot and plug in your USB devices in the order you want the drive letters to be assigned starting from the first available one. And you will be starting with a clean slate.

( I use it almost every month to clear the cobweb.)
