AMD Fx quad core prosessor after bios update hi again guys, just been through a lenghty prosess on here trying to sort out a bsod. in the end i had to get hold of gigabyte for a unreleased alpha version of the bios. @bios FDa
my specs
-windows 7 home premium 64bit sp1
-GA-78LMT-S2P rev 4.0 FDa
-ATI 6570 1gb graphics card catalist 12.8
-AMD FX-4170 quad core 4.2ghz
now the problem is, after i installed the new bios, my cpu is now showing 2.82ghz instead of the 4.2ghz and i dont know how to fix it.
before bios update
cpuz is also saying it is now a AMD fx-4170 quadcore processor black edition 4.2ghz
AMD vison engine controll centre 4.2gzh
windows is showing it as a 2.82ghz
after bios update
cpuz is also saying it is now a AMD fx-4170 quadcore processor (wheres the black edition gone?) and showing 2.8ghz
AMD vison engine controll centre dosnt even show my cpu anymore.
and windows is showing it as a 2.82ghz | My System Specs |

Your MB is not designed for a 125W processor. Gigabyte played the same game with rev 3.1 by issuing a BIOS update to allow use of some Bulldozer processors.
My theory is that your MB is under clocking your processor because of its inherent 95W limit.
If it were me, I would send the board back and get a board that was designed, from the get-go, for the Bulldozer processor. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II 945 Motherboard GA-880GM-UD2H Memory 8GB Corsair Graphics Card Radeon HD 6670 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G 25" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Logitech PSU Antec 350W Case Antec Cooling Stock Hard Drives Samsung 500GB Internet Speed 5MB |

Mister Curious here. Go to Wizard Software - CPU Speed, Bandwidth Meter testing software and more, and about half way down the page you'll see a CPU speed tester. There is no install. Download the program (750kb), run it, and see what speed it reports. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II 945 Motherboard GA-880GM-UD2H Memory 8GB Corsair Graphics Card Radeon HD 6670 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G 25" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Logitech PSU Antec 350W Case Antec Cooling Stock Hard Drives Samsung 500GB Internet Speed 5MB |

The obvious would be to go back to the old BIOS. What was the purpose of updating the BIOS in the first place? If there was no immediate problem that would require a BIOS update to fix a specific issue, why do it?
The BSOD, are you sure the BIOS was the cause of that. Most of the time its a faulty driver, out dated driver or bad memory. Did you post your BSOD in the BSOD forum...them guys and gals over there really know their stuff. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 6790 D Sound Card On board RealTek HD Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors:Samsung SyncMaster S20B300 Screen Resolution 1600 X 900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Ultra X4 750 watt fully modular Case Thermaltake Overseer RX 1 full tower Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

I was having bsod whilst trying to play a new game, it was a secondary clock timing out message, I posyed to amd tech help, and to gigabyte tech help, I posted on here and other sites, o went throuhj all the standard things, driver updates, chip updates, bios settings, stress testing, unclockimg gfc card etc. In the everybody said update the bios, well it was one of the very first things everbody sugested, but I only did it after extinguishing all other routes first. I know a bios update is not to be taken lightly, even im my other post on here when I said I fixed the bsod issue I said dont flash bios untill u tried everything else,
Not being moody or having a go just explaining myself as to why.
Also went back into msconfig and 4 cores are showing up again, still at the 2.82mhz though.. Also the game has stopped working again. Im doing a fresh onstall of windows to see if that helps. Sod the poxy game, I just want my pc back.
Also got hold of the business that made it for me, after I yold them that thr cpu not compatable with mobo etc they said they would pick it up and replace parts (only got it 3 weeks ago)
So either I fix it before monday or they do.
Sorry for spelling etc im typing on a tiny phone lol | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom OS windows 7 home premium 64bit CPU AMD FX-4170 quad-core Motherboard GA-78LMT-S2p Memory 8gb DDR3 Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 6570 Sound Card realtec Monitor(s) Displays compaq cq1859s Screen Resolution 1366-768 Keyboard compaq standard QWERTY Case x11 Cooling standard, 4x case fans, psu fan, graffics fan, cpu fan Hard Drives 500gb Other Info just started getting into pc gaming, turns out it's harder than i thought |

That would be a bad move do the above advise get ahold of Gigabyte tell them to RMA your Board get a new one only update the bios if it is really needed
At this point if you do RMA don't do any Bios upgrade just leave it | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me FX - Series Scorpious OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU Vishera FX 8350 Oc' 4.812Ghz 1.488 V-core full load 50c Motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 2.0 Memory 16gb Corsair Vengeance ram 1600mhz Oc'ed to 1750mhz Graphics Card VisionTek HD7970 Ghz.ed Bios Crossfire 1150/1560 power 10% Sound Card AC97 Monitor(s) Displays 27" ViewSonic 1920/1080dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1920x1080 27"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU HX1050w Corsair Silver 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case Thermaltake Element V Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Ocz Agility 120Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 25+ mb Antivirus WebRoot Spysweeper with Antivirus Browser IE-9, Chrome, Opera Other Info I have 2 systems FX AM3+ 8350-K15 Oc'ed 4.812Ghz AM2+ 965 BE Stock 3.4 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen AMD Fx quad core prosessor after bios update problems?
