Can't read from source file or disc - Error

I got a new external hard drive which is 1Tb. My original drives were 500Gbs each. All 3 drives are GoFlex. The 500Gb drives have one usb cord, and the 1Tb does too. I've seen people suggesting getting external hard drives that have 2 usb wires, but the problem remains that every time I try to copy/paste or drag and drop my files, which are all over 200mbs, I get the message: Can't read from source file or disc. I can't just get a new drive with 2 usb wires - I still have to transfer the files to the drive, or my computer's hard drive. Neither work. I never had this problem until I bought a new drive which was a Toshiba external hard drive with 1Tb. I've used Toshiba external hard drives before with no issue. I'm returning the Toshiba drive after buying another Goflex drive because people told me it's not a good idea to intermingle 2 different brand names. But that wasn't the problem. I'm afraid of never being able to open or move my files ever again. And yes, I also cannot play the videos I'm transferring. Thanks for any help!
