    1.5gb of DDR2 ram

i have a motherboard with 2 DDR2 slots, right now each one has 512mb. If i were to remove one off them and insert a 1gb stick, now having 1.5gb installed.

is this possible (Motherboard model on my system specs)

Yes. The motherboard supports up to 8GB of DDR2 memory.

but i know that some motherboards need the modules to be the same in each slot, is mine and exception?

No. All motherboards that I know of with more than one memory slot can cater for different size modules to be used at the same time. For best results though, I recommend that identical modules are used, particularly when utilising dual/triple/quad channel memory.

Out of interest, why don't you replace both sticks at the same time?

I am going to build a gaming rig in the next 6 - 12 months so i dont want major upgrades ( i will buy an adapter for some 4 gb laptop ram and install that on a later date. i had this 1gb stored on a non functioning computer so i decided to have a temporary memory boost.

Not a bad card, but I might consider upgrading it when I next upgrade the rest of my system - although this is probably going to be next year.

sorry m8 but as i put the 1 gb on, i get the normal start up noises, no unusualness. just there is no screen input no matter which input i use, dvi and vga ( graphics card ) and the integrated vga. so i go back to 1gb (2 512s) and all is working again,

It's been a while since I've worked with DDR2, but I thought the voltages varied greatly with DDR2, and that could easily cause the issues you are seeing.

What speed is the DDR2 512mb stick? Is it the same as the 1gb stick you have put in (in theory i believe they should still work but they would just run at the slower speed of the 2 if they were different but i have known motherboards to be fussy )

    DDR2 Speeds Example:
    DDR2-400
    DDR2-533
    DDR2-667
    DDR2-800
    DDR2-1066
