    New am3+ motherboard


    Hey guys i decided today i wanted a motherboard that would support xfire/sli
    I decided i liked the look of this one http://www.ebuyer.com/349910-gigabyt...rd-ga-970a-ds3
    I have a few questions though
    1. Would it support sli for newer cards with out severe bottle necking
    2.would it support my old phenom II or must i buy an am3+ cpu
    3. Will I have to get a new windows 7

    Yes...that mobo will support your current hardware but will only run crossfire, that's according the the spec page. There are also some limitations due to CPU, RAM and crossfire configuration. See notes on spec page.

    1) nVidia has only recently begun licensing SLI for some boards with AMD-made 9xx series chipsets. You'd have to check each board to see whether the maker has paid the license fee to NVidia. (It doesn't seem to be hardware related.)

    2) as Bassfisher posted

    3) Depends on what type of Win7 license you have. Retail licenses are transferable. (Upgrade ones require that the new system have a qualifying older OS in place, though.) OEM licenses are not transferable. I refer to the requirements of the license agreements, rather than what may be physically possible.

    There are many ways.

    One way is to run slmgr /dli from a command window. (It doesn't need one with admin privileges.)

    It doesn't tell me that my licenses are upgrade ones, but it informs me that they're retail.
