Random Computer Shutdowns - Please Help

System Spec:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M565-S3
CPU: AMD 64 X2
RAM - Crucial Ballistix BL12864AA80A (4x1GB)
PSU: Corsair CX500

I have been experiencing extremely frustrating random shutdowns with this PC. My brother got rid of it and gave it to me for this reason. He is not very computer savvy, but with a bit more knowledge than he has, I thought I could sort the problem.

I thought it might have been an overheating problem and I saw the case fans were working intermittantly whilst connected to the motherboard. So I changed the fans for brand new ones and connected them to the PSU instead. They are now working perfectly with no interruptions. I also changed the PSU to the one listed in the spec above as I thought that might have been the source of the problem.

I was using DBAN to wipe the hard drives -all ok for 2 hours and then the system just shut down with no error messages, just shut down. This happened with the old PSU and with the old fans, which is why I changed them. However now I feel a bit stuck. Any help please?? Many thanks!
