How do I fix function keys problem?

Something is wrong with my fn key and F1-F12 keys?
Suddenly it seems like my F1-F12 keys are using different keys.
For example, when I press F1, I get a screen output switch thing. F2 disables my wifi. F3 uses the A key. F8 uses my Q key, and F9 uses my G key.

How do I fix this? I want to use F5 to refresh web pages but it doesn't work.

    I am using a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 model

Is there an f.lock key on the keyboard in question?
It overrides the fn key. I have no idea what pressing both at the same time results in. Likely the problem you are experiencing though.

Numberlock sometimes works in conjuncture with the function key. Try pressing Fn + Shift + Numberlock

Or any other combinations like Fn + Ctrl +Numberlock

Or maybe even just Fn + Numberlock... not sure which will work...

Have you tried any other keyboards? it might be a problem with the keyboard itself. like if anything spilled on it, the contacts can get crossed.

I used an external keyboard and everything works fine-- I think it's my laptop keyboard. I never eat or drink near my computer though...

It could be something goofy has gone wrong with the software or driver that supports it.
You could try reinstalling that. It should be available on the manufacturer's website.

If you need to replace it, there are video tutorials on how to remove the keyboard this one is for full disassembly, but it has the keyboard part in it:

Note: if its still under warrentee then probably send it in for repair
