    Weird Mouse Problems


    I have a brand new Dell XPS 14 with i7 and 8 gb of memory, but when I hook it up to my external monitor and usb hub (speakers, mouse, keyboard, printer, template cutter) the mouse gets weirdly slow. It's usually when something is opening in the background or i first initially move the mouse. It is unresponsive for fractions of seconds intermittingly. I've updated all drivers and BIOS from Dell and removed any programs I thought might be the issue. I also rolled back my computer to a few weeks ago when it wasn't happening, still keeps doing it. It's almost unusable. Any suggestions?

    Connect the mouse directly to the PC and NOT through the hub. That should improve mouse operation.

    Try to hook up the mouse to a real USB port - not to a hub. It may not get enough power.

    LOL - fireberd is too fast for me.

    It actually is hooked up to the usb port on the laptop. I keep it there always because it's the small Logitech unifier and I just keep it in. What's actually in the USB port is printer, template cutter, and speakers. It can't be the usb port though because it happens when I take it home too, which led me to believe it might be the video card. This JUST started happening though, maybe 2 weeks ago tops. I've had the computer since August. It's so weird and frustrating

    I've got a Logitech mouse with one of those "unifying" small USB transmitter/receiver units. It works flakey/intermittent and I'm back to using an older Logitech mouse with a USB transmitter/receiver about the size of a USB flash drive.

    I don't think these types of Logitech units are ready for "prime time".

    I don't think it is the Logitech mouse though. I was using a Microsoft wireless mouse and though that was the problem, that's why I switched to the Logitech. But it is still happening.

    Does it work OK if the USB hub is disconnected from the PC? If it does, then the Hub is what is causing the problems. Is the external hub a self powered hub (one that has its own power supply)? if not that can also be an issue as there is only a limited amount of total power available for all the USB ports and if you hook up a non powered USB it can draw too much power and cause problems.

    hmm i don't know. I'll try a couple different configurations of the USB hub being plugged in and not and let you know how it goes
