    Hard drive calibration

Can someone explain why one program says my hard drive is having calibration problems, but one says it's okay? My hard drive has became a little bit louder within the last month, also.

Both programs get the same data, just that HD tuner thinks it's dangerous while the other does not.

The "calibration retry count" means its mechanical parts keep requiring re-calibration at disk start-up (and recalibrate automatically), could be a failing HDD, could be the program that misinterprets what the HDD tells it.

The best way to be sure is going to the manufacturer's site and download their disk diagnostic utilities and run them. Both the programs you used list the HDD model name you need to use to find such tools, HD tune lists it to the left of the thermometer icon.

I'd have to agree. There have been many instances where 3rd party utilities don't read errors properly. There's no substitute for the drive manufacturer's tools, as they will be accurate and trustworthy.
