However over the years, it has become full to overflowing. I would like to clean it up and return it to the operating system only. Unfortunately I do not have the original disks or access to the installation programs for most of the information on the SSD. I have two other hard drives in the system - a 500GB Velociraptor that I originally wanted to hold all the programs and a 1000GB for the data. Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer the data off the SSD without screwing up my system? Thanks!
Not having the Win 7 disks is no problem as long as you have the Product Key, the 25 character code that is on a small sticker somewhere on your PC. You can download the ISO from here
Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life and burn onto a DVD (not more than 4X) and use this for a clean install on your SSD. When you are happy with the install, you can insert your Product Key and active your Win 7. Use this tutorial to aid on your installation.
Clean Install Windows 7 Good luck
If you can put some programs on your SSD, you will see a big advantage in speed. This is the desired way to install SSD's.
