Bill sorry for butting in gain but I did just a while ago have this same sort of problem with a La Cie 1TB.

I took this thing apart and inside was what looked like a small circuit board fixed to the bottom of the case with chips on it ??controller and just an ordinary SATA drive. Now I still have that drive somewhere around and I might just throw it on one of my machines and see what happens (with one of those gadgets) if I come up with anything I'll get back.

The drive by the way I just threw in a new HDD and away it went.

Mate I am no expert but will try a bit of "cracking"

Ready? Create a log, then post screen 2-where you select the drive, we're going to deviate from the tutorial and use the step-by-step instructions. Since your device is different from those examples, we'll probably have to jump around in response to Testdisk's output on the screen.

John: Yep, it's just a drive in an enclosure, with ciruitry for Sata (or Pata/IDE)->USB interfacing.

injmalk: John brings up a valid point. Is this drive still under warranty?
I think we should continue on the Testdisk path for the moment.

Now back to the main show......

Well, you selected dev/sda - that's your 1 TB C:\ drive

I know you want this fixed, but.....

Want to try again?
One step, one screen... I'll confirm, correct, change direction, or cancel. Ok?

NOTE: Please remove the group of pictures from post 41. It's driving me crazy - the forum is stretched wide

Edit the post, go advanced, manage attachements, delete the images

That looks good - go ahead hit proceed.

Intel is also good, next

If you're having difficulty trying to remove the images from post 41 - forget about that.
Simply delete post 41
edit -> delete button (make sure you click the delete radio button near the "why are you deleting..." text box or it does nothing.
