    CPU Question

I have a Intel Core i3-2120 = 3.3Ghz in my desktop. Is this a 2nd or 3rd generation i3? The reason I am asking is that I am shopping for a laptop and have seen the term 2nd generation next to the i3. Just curious which mine is. == Also, when did 3rd generation come out?

Its a Sandy bridge which is 2nd generation.

    ARK | Intel® Core

No idea when 3rd generation (ivy bridge) was released.

    i3 2120= 2nd Generation

    i3 3240= 3rd Genaration

same applies to i5 and i7

    i5 2500k = i5 3570k

    i7 2600k = i73770k

so basicly first number tells you the generation
and the k means that it is highly overclockable, sorry to say i3 is not overclockable

Ivy Bridge, or 3rd Generation, Laptops hit the shelves around late April/May if I remember correctly.

Possibly you should check your Rep in the future before you ask for it.
