trouble with usb mouse, port problem, driver issue?

I have 4 ports on my laptop.
I want to use 1 of those ports for my USB mouse.

When i plug it in, i hear the windows 'duh dum' sound indicating that its detected it. But it doesnt work. There isnt any power going to it, and its as if its dead.

If i plug any other device into the same usb port, its fine.
if i plug in the same mouse in the other 3 ports, its fine.

i dont know how to get windows to initiate the 'installing optical usb/ps2 mouse' driver, to get it to come up with that message when you plug the mouse in.

i suspect its something to do with the fact that when i first plugged it into that port for the first time, i was in the middle of updating windows (new laptop) and i remember seeing that windows message 'installing driver' come up but something happened and it stopped.

i have checked in device manager and theres no issue (no yellow exclamation mark etc.)

how do i reset that port back to year 0.....and get it to actually install the driver when i plug the mouse in?

hi and welcome to the forums :)

'duh dum' will mean the driver cant load, windows does not recognize the device best to try the troubleshooter

plug the mouse in go to control panel > devices and printers >and right click on the mouse (if it is showing) and click on troubleshoot in the context menu and see if windows fixes it for you.

yeh the problem is its not getting to that stage.
i cannot see the mouse in devices.

If i could....i wouldnt have this issue.

thats why im asking specifically, how do i get windows to 'reissue' the driver install, when you plug the device into USB for the first time.

whatever i did first time round, i cut the process which is why it works fine on the 3 other USB ports, but not this one.

right i see well uninstall the driver when its plugged into one of the ports that works, pull out of port re boot computer and when your desktop is up plug back in and let windows re install the driver
