Download the latest drivers from the manuf. website and install them. This may fix it.
Yes, I know, you already have drivers installed.
Did this just happen on it`s own ? Have you made any changes lately ?
i have installed it for the first time and the window it self downloaded the driver
and in add printers and devices it shows that printer is working but i doesnt print
HP is notorius for not supporting older hardware, such as updating drivers for a newer OS. One reason I stuck with XP for so long is my HP Laserjet 1300, which is a newer version than the venerable Laserjet 4, didn't have drivers that would work with Vista (which I wouldn't have ever used) or Win 7.
According to HP, the only drivers are those available in Windows or from Windows Update:
HP LaserJet, Color LaserJet, and LaserJet AiO/MFP Products - Install the driver included in the Windows 7 operating system (OS) - c02536257 - HP Business Support Center
I've been in a similar situation with an old Brother printer (HL 5150D), but I've found the Windows drivers to be quite acceptable. (No Postscript emulator, though.) It may help that the 5150D has both parallel and USB connections. (I'm using USB.)
How are you connecting the Laserjet 4 plus to your PC? It looks like serial (RS232) and parallel port are the only options. Newer PCs often lack a parallel port. If you're using a USB-to-parallel adapter, that may have a lot to do with your problem.
