Windows 7: External 2nd monitor screen position cannot be changed.

External 2nd monitor screen position cannot be changed.

I have tried searching the forums but have not found exactly what I need to know. If there is a thread please direct me to it.

At work I have a docking station with a Dell display and that works fine.

At home I have my HP EliteBook 2560p (1366 x 768) connected to either a BenQ FP93GW (1440 x 900) or a HP LE1901wm via a VGA cable.

For several months everything was fine and I had them setup as extended display.

Then for some inexplicable reason when I connected one of the aforementioned home screens and booted up the external monitor screen position is now located in the lower right hand corner.

I have done everything I can think of;
  • Rebooted,
  • Changed resolution settings. Windows says that they are both at recommended resolution
  • Switch them between primary and secondary
  • Changed cables
  • Downloaded HP display assistant and tried the wizard and advanced settings.
  • Change settings in the intel integrated display
  • Move screen poistion using monitor buttons and screen settings window.
  • Roll back driver
  • Update driver - Windows says everything is up to date.
Nothing has worked. It does not matter if I change between monitors the problem transfers. Which leads me to suggest that there is something wrong with the output or setting in the notebook.

To say this is infuriating is an understatement. I am trying to look for the most obvious reason/solution but currently it eludes me.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
