Laptop batteries?

Laptop batteries? After they die for good can you buy a new battery and still use the laptop?
I use my laptop as my main computer. Can you please answer these questions...

Q#1: I constantly have my laptop plugged in, but only when it's on or in use. Is this a bad thing or no?

Q#2: When the battery of a laptop dies for good, can you buy a new battery and still use the same laptop?

Please answer both questions.

In my opinion. I leave mine plugged in all the time. About once a month I run it on battery and drain the battery. As far as #2, yes, the battery can be replaced, but is pretty expensive and you need to be sure to buy the correct battery for your laptop.

1. There's no harm in leaving it plugged in all the time, but as mentioned, you can help extend the life of your battery by occasionally draining it completely and then fully recharging it.

2. You can always buy a new battery for it. You can find ones cheap on eBay, but those tend to not last very long. Since this is your main computer, and if you plan to keep it for a while, I would suggest getting a real battery from the manufacturer or a trusted reseller.

I don't have a laptop but I know a few people who would never buy a desktop. Their reasons are usually that they like to tidy up after using their computer, they don't have space to spare and the portability of a laptop suits them fine. I always remind them to make use of the battery to maximise...
