Hard drive upgraded & system recovery done but Windows doesn't update
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx laptop which is now two years old and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit , Intel i5 M540 2.5Ghz , 4Gb RAM ,nVidia GeForce GT 230M , BIOS version HP F.1C 17/05/2010
The recovery discs were created soon after purchasing the laptop , at this point all Windows Updates,Defender etc were working fine.
Recently I changed the hard disk from Samsung 640 GB 5400rpm to WD Scorpio Black 500GB 7200rpm.
The same recovery disks were used to re-install Windows & other applications which came bundled with the laptop.
After a successful installation I realized that Windows Update , Windows Defender and any Windows related application doesn't work , though Windows is already 'Activated'.
The error message says the service isn't started but I can see they are already running , even tried stopping then starting the same service even in DOS mode but the services are getting successfully started and the error message still persists.
Also tried System Mechanic Pro 11 but it couldn't find any useful disrepencies in the system.
So far I've tried to re-install using the whole system recovery process , Microsoft's MrFixIt , removing anti-virus software , stopping & restarting the Windows Services , tried to install Windows Update Agent 3.0 , ran Scannow in cmd , visited HP/Intel/WD support websites , also deleted the Software Distribution folder & other temp files , tried to find driver updates or patches for WD Black & Intel 5 Series 3400 Chipset but with no luck.
All above tasks were tried as 'Administrator'.
Can someone please guide me on what steps I should take to solve the problem?
Many thanks & Kind regards,
