What to do with these RAM?

    64 bit Windows and programs isn't the problem, it is as you say the "old" motherboard/chipset. Also it isn't the motherboard that determines 64 bit, but the CPU.

    Even if he installs 64 bit Windows the available ram won't change. The reason being is that the Intel G31 chipset only supports up to 4 GB,

    You can run this program from Microsoft to see if your computer is ready for Windows 7 64.
    Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center
    Your motherboard only supports 4 gigs of ram. That is why in my post #7 I mentioned to save up for a new system. I don't see any good options to upgrade your present computer.
