My Method to fix the windows 7 mouse randomly freezing issue
The tips here is to help you to fix your mouse randomly freezing issue on windows7 using USB3.0 port
Issue description:
mouse randomly freezing on windows 7 - sometimes it totally freeze and will not work and have to reboot the pc to make it work.
during freezing the skype and realplayer still working fine but just mouse freeze.
Hardware:
GIGABYTE motherboard – p67a-ud3-b3 this actually does not matter.
CPU – intel i7 something, actually we do not care about this much for the above issue.
Steelseries mouse &keyboard.
Software:
Windows 7 – 64 bit home version. And all the device drivers from GIGABYTE etc.
What was done before to fix this issue:
1/ BIOS upgrade – not able to fix the issue.
2/ motherboard relate device drivers upgrade – not able to fix the issue.
3/ USB 3.0 device drivers update to most recent version – not able to fix the issue
4/ use the legacy usb port – still issue…
5/ search from google and try to understand why this issue happen, and found that MICROSOFT not compatible to USB3.0 as there is no standard now, and it was saying windows7 service pack 2 would fix this but another saying was it might be 3 years later the service pack 2 would come.
6/issue isolated here: USB3.0 incompatible with windows7 cause this issue
Solution related questions:
are we able to fix this USB3.0 device driver so to make it compatible with windows 7 ? the answer is no.
so what should we do now?
The advantage of USB3.0 is its speed for data transfer…but here is the issue with our mouse, so we do not care about if it is usb3.0 or 2.0…now solution come up….why not we use usb2.0 etc?
I check the motherboard related doc and found that it has several usb ports and among them 2 are usb 3.0(the blue one-they marked it.) in the back of the pc.
Are we able to disable these 2 usb3.0 ports? The answer is yes.
Solution:
We enter into bios and find out that there is option for usb3.0 so we chose disable and from device drivers to remove the usb3.0 related device part and reboot the pc and now then the mouse & keyboard all working fine for about 1 week without any issue.
Post activities:
You can wait until windows7 will support USB3.0 but that might take long time we would not know how long.
When you buy a pc back home for its 8GB RAM with windows7 as we all know the RAM is cheap and windowsXP will not support more than 4GB RAM and you take your mouse to your home with issue then you will find out that the above solution is so excellent especially for those WOW player.
All the above is only private opinion to resolve the issue we have.
