Windows 7: VGN-CR36G/B inbuilt camera not detected after installing windows 7

sony laptop vgn-cr 36g/b came with windows vista.....it was slow..i installed windows 7 on it...32 bit...i got most of the drivers...but inbuilt camera is not being detected...and the driver software says that its for windows vista only........i have searched internet for many hours....but all in vain......anybody can help?......thanks..

Sometimes, because of the age of the computer, some manufacturers won't spend the time or money to develop newer drivers for the latest operating systems. This may be the situation you're facing ... that no drivers for Windows 7 were developed by Sony for your particular Vaio.

But you may be able to get the Vista driver to work in Compatibility Mode. This isn't a sure thing. It may not work at all, or it may have reduced functionality if it does work.

hello mr. marsmimar...its good to have a reply from you.....i have tried the vista driver...it says it cannot be updated and when i went for compatibilty mode....all the compatibilty options were grey....may be due 32 or 63 bit diffrnce issues....i m using 32 bit windows 7......i m still searching that driver which could solve my prblm....

Sorry to hear that compatibility mode didn't help. Sometimes people update to the latest and greatest driver only to have it crash their computer. Other times they'll get a driver from a questionable site and get malware on their machine. So with those warnings, you might try using a 3rd party scanner like DriverMax to see if their driver database has a driver listed for your inbuilt camera.

If they do, they should provide info about the driver such as who developed it, when it was developed, etc. Using that information you may be able to locate the developer's website and download the driver directly from them along with any "readme" information for optimizing installation.

It's also possible that a driver scan may reveal other drivers that are supposedly outdated. Best solution is to visit the Sony website and see if they list those drivers for your specific Vaio model. (Drivers are often "tweaked" by computer manufacturers for their specific models. If you install a "non-tweaked" driver it may not work and other problems can occur.)
