Sorry to hear that compatibility mode didn't help. Sometimes people update to the latest and greatest
driver only to have it crash their computer. Other times they'll get a driver from a questionable site and get malware on their machine. So with those warnings, you might try using a 3rd party scanner like DriverMax to see if their driver database has a driver listed for your inbuilt camera.

If they do, they should provide info about the driver such as who developed it, when it was developed, etc. Using that information you may be able to locate the developer's website and download the driver directly from them along with any "readme" information for optimizing installation.
It's also possible that a driver scan may reveal other
drivers that are supposedly outdated. Best solution is to visit the Sony website and see if they list those drivers for your specific Vaio model. (Drivers are often "tweaked" by computer manufacturers for their specific models. If you install a "non-tweaked" driver it may not work and other problems can occur.)
