CPU cooler to fit Shuttle SG41J4 mini-ITX

Have a new Shuttle SG41H4 with mini-ITX board.

I got everything free except no CPU/cooler (Even OS -in box).

However, the Q 9400 Processor I purchased has no cooler. Shuttle says maximum size is 75mm X 75mm x80mm.

I saw a few threads on micro ITX coolers here and wondered if anyone had any advice or recommendations. All of micro ITX coolers I have seen on-line are much larger or have no specs.

Help!

Technologically impaired 60 y/o (second build, but most of it was free & so I grabbed it not realizing how hard it would be to get older parts.)

Hiyya DH and welcome Now just to get this right the machine I am not sure of what exactly it is as I have Googled that model and it really tells me nothing .

So what we need to know is did this come prebuilt, semi buillt or just the parts?

Now the processor you mention I have one very similar in my tester and the stock cooler that came with that CPU was quite "compact" and if you bought this CPU new it should have come with a stock cooler.

If not then most Intel stock coolers I have seen for that CPU measure around 50 - 60mm in height which if I ma reading this right would fit comfortably in the machine which you state has ?80mm height clearance max?

If you look you can find most of the stock 775 socket coolers in repair shops Ebay of course etc etc

If you lived closer you could have one of my many spares for free. But as that is the case hum..
Personally seeing as it is a new machine I would go for something like this as it would be more efficient than a stock cooler (and new) but it depends of course on your budget Vortex 211P - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case, Cooler, Power Supply, Laptop Cooling, Gaming Peripherals this one would fit very nicely if the height dimension you quote is what it actually is.

Just as a matter of curiosity what are you using this machine for?

Just had look at one of your local sites and you need to have a look through this lot and don't pick the cheapest one because it isn't a good idea but look through the lsting then pick one - if it has a manufacturers site then go to there and look for that height dimension and the noise level. Some of the smaller ones can be annoyingly noisy.

Well, the problem you may have had looking up my Shuttle, is I put the wrong number in the text of my plea for help.
It is an SG41J4 (although the user guide says J1 and the quick set-up says J4 in English, and J 2 in the Spanish version).

No H anywhere. If you go to the shuttle web site and select bare bones or XPC or personal computers (cannot remember) it will show up on the right hand side of the display of various small form-factor boxes.

I use it primarilly for work, excel, word, etc, plus e-mail, web, etc. No gaming, but I do like to watch an occasinal sports video etc.

Apparently the 775 or Socket T is a/or is becoming a legacy. I purchased from Newegg.com, and they only had the bare cpu. The cooler I purchased was much too large, though it looks close, it will hit the other cooler on the motherboard. It is 90 x 90 x ?? (plenty or room height-wise - well under 80 mm).

I think your original response answers my real question. I will simply get the factory cooler what was suppose to come with the CPU. They are sill available all over as you noted. I am fairly certain I looked at the cooler you recommended and it was the same size as the one that will not fit, or it was short enough but too wide. Nonetheless, but I will check again. Being my age, I printed all the coolers I looked at so I could be sure which ones I had checked out for fit. Intel does not provide their specs anywhere I have found. The instructions they provide run from the basic be sure it touches the CPU to cooling specs it would take a physics major to understand. Hence my initial post.

No probs DH personally I would go with an after market over the Intel, as generally they are more efficient.

That is the ones that use heat pipes (like the Coolermasters etc) instead of the solid block type (Intel). You just have to remember those Q cores can get very hot and in a confined space like yours you need all the help you can get.
