Which socket has the best upgrade path?

(starting with FX-6300) AM3+ has the upcoming steamroller and excavator

(starting with the i3 3240 or i5 3570k) 1155 has the current i7's and thats it really,

    Socket 2011

According to this source, LGA 2011 will be on-par with Haswell until EOL and Intel is likely going to hold on to support of this architecture along with 1150 because the socket was promised Ivy Bridge-E a very, very long time ago, causing investors in the server market to move on to the platform.
They are obligated to keep the life extended after the release of Ivy Bridge-E as well as the Xeon counterpart.
I source that here: Inline | PC Perspective where you see Ivy Bridge-EP.

Even though socket 1155 has gone as far as it can, I would still pit the 3570K against anything AMD has released, and in all likelihood, will release. I just don't have any faith in them anymore. The 3570K will be a great performer for you for years to come, in fact, I don't even venture a guess at when the 3570K will be the "bottleneck" in a system. It's a damn good all around chip.

    Well said kbrady...

It's too bad for AMD, I used to like their Athalon line of CPUs...

Apart from the LGA 2011, also i agree with the comment regarding the 3570k, just for what im thinking(budget pc build) i was thinking of the fx-6300 but then I will problably stay with amd and because the i3 3220 gets eaten alive by the fx-6300 it gives me more of a reason

AMD stuff is still good in the budget segment, but is basically outpaced by intel for anything mid and high end. Really hope they manage to pull some weird wizardry by including ARM processors on the same chip or whatever I keep hearing from them to at least stop sucking so much.

I personally choose 1155 as the processors for it rock and will keep rocking for at least 5 years. It's a bit too early to invest in a 2011 mobo.
