Win7 64 problems with D-Link XtremeN DWA-552 Wireless Card
A few weeks ago I acquired said wireless adapter and it has been giving me nothing but problems. Initially, the drivers would not install properly, Windows eventually just sorted the issue automatically and it started working. However, every time I shut down my computer and started it back up again the device would be recognized as a generic "Ethernet Controller" under Other Devices with a "!" next to it. The only way to get it working again was to Uninstall the device and reboot. Every time I shut down this would happen. Not an ideal situation, but I was used to it.
Suddenly this morning, after coming out of standby (it was working before it went into standby) the device was no longer working and was again being recognized as an Ethernet Controller. Only this time, uninstalling and rebooting didn't fix it. I'll boot up, Windows will say it's attempting to install a new piece of hardware (an Ethernet Controller, which is wrong as it's supposed to be a Network Adapter) and it will fail claiming that the drivers are missing. Attempting to manually install the drivers will also fail.
To further complicate the issue, one of the times I rebooted, Windows recognized it as a "Network Controller(!)" instead of the usual "Ethernet Controller(!)" . I manually installed the drivers and it worked, so I rebooted, only to have the problem come back. The device was once again showing up as Ethernet Controller.
I've been using the latest drivers (V 1.7) and am using Windows 7 64bit.
I am quite honestly flummoxed, I've never had such a basic piece of hardware be so problematic. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I shall provide any required system information if requested.
