    Please help...this is quite funny....

    Ok. Heres the background

I have an hp dv6 3019ax, bought about a year ago, and ill be honest with you, its given me nothing but trouble since day one of purchase, from switchable graphics, switchable audio etc to the physical assembly and cheapness

Any how, i recently ran into error (no had drive found, ctrl + alt + del to restart).

So mu HDD is gone, i was having issues with a previous installation of windows, so i reinstalled windows, ran windows update and returned today from work, to find my HDD dead. That another thing, this lappy runs ExTREMELY hot all the time (ive blown it out and everything, put it down to a driver issue??) anyway,

I took my 2.5inch SATA HDD out and i had a spare 3.5 inch drive, as per the photo. Put it in but it is not detected . The 2.5inch drive runs at both 12v @ 0.35a and 5v @ 0.72a

    The 2.5inch drive runs @ 5v 700ma (0.7a) so i don't see a problem here

I have tried to see if the disk is active in diskpart with no luck, and this drive works on desktop so i know its not a faulty drive

Im a little broke at the mo (studying cisco CCNA :) ) so would appreciate any help!!

    Thanks for your time!!

EDIT: sorry about the pic, im using my phone at the moment

If it is still under some kind of warranty, call HP and list all the issues you had asking them to fix it. This is the best and most recommended choice, as if under warranty it's all free and they have more chances to fix it than we have. (as they can simply trash everything and give you a brand new machine, something we cannot do)

You are quite a tinkerer. I see a vent powered by a battery and you managed to connect a 3.5 hard drive to that thing?
From the issues reported "no hard drive found" and after a reinstall it happened again, seems like a failing hard drive. Please connect the 2.5" HDD again, and during boot press F2 or Del to enter BIOS, navigate to a tab talking about hard drives, and report what it says, especially stuff in the SMART line (that's hard drive monitoring system, if there are issues, then it should say something)

Running hot is because the designer team was incompetent (not uncommon for HP although more common for cheaper brands) or because some fan isn't spinning,so check that the fans run as they should.

Haha thanks guys. But surely they wouldnt replace it in the state thats its in lol. I mean the keyboard is missing (onboard keyboard) and it has a broken back hinge. Having said that its like 1 year old!!

I have the 3.5 inch drive in it now, which i know works because i had it in a desktop. Then tried the 2.5 in the desktop a d got the same error. The lappys just not detecting the 3.5inch drive, also i know with sata theres no jumper to select master slave etc, its like permently in cable select (i think)

As for the bios, the bios is the most simple and basic settings-less bios ive ever seen haha

I do receive one hdd error something like 3B0 or something but i can confirm this once i get home.

Ps. Thanks for re-uploading my pic

    Thanks guys!

EDIT: error code is 3F0 - ill google this now

One more thing, i have reset the bios aswell, maybe the sata controller locked up or whatever, with no luck

as long as the hdd fits in the connectors without bending them, it should be fine. Was that hard drive empty or is windows 7 installed on it? If not, install windows on that hard drive and it will boot. Master slave and cable select are all IDE settings that make no sense whatsoever anymore as all interfaces are now SATA.

Also, investing in a good cooling pad or an oversize fan instead of that puny one is going to help with heat

meh, a windows 7 installation does not run on another machine if it is so different.

look in BIOS, even if it's locked down it should at least list the hard drive in the boot priority list. if there is no model/name of the hard drive then it isn't seeing the drive.
