    Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard 4000 problems

Hey guy's, is anyone using the wired USB version of the Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard 4000 with Windows 7 - 64 bit ?

I've downloaded the latest software/drivers for this and installed them but I still can't get the Shortcut/My Favorites keys to function correctly.

These used to work fine with XP now no matter whcih of the 5 keys I press it opens the same program ( CoreFTP )

I have each of them set up to open specific webpages but they don't

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this ?

    Thanks.

    Hello stkeys,

Sounds like a driver issue. Where did you get your drivers from?

I downloaded Intellitype V7 pro for Windows7 - 64 bit from the Windows 7 Website.
I had to uninstal the previous version before installing this one.

It's strange that the other shortcut keys work fine and I can program the 5 Fav keys to open programs but if I try to get them to open a website URL they always open the Corftp program which then hangs and I have to use Cntrl/Alt/Delete to close it.

The Mail shortcut key opens up the browser at Yahoo mail for me and the Webhome key opens up a browser so why I can't reprogram any of the Favs keys to so this is a mystery.

Rather than just the URL, try binding the executable file (iexplore.exe, firefox.exe, etc.) of your browser to the button, with the desired URL as parameter, like this:

    Code:
    [path to file]\iexplore.exe "http://example.org"
Maybe CoreFTP (is it?) is set as default program for handling URLs, that is why it shows up if you try to "execute" an URL.

Thanks for your suggestion Andras but it didn't work.

Here is an example that I tried
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe "http://www.namecheap.com"

It came up with an error saying couldn't find it then proceeded to open up CoreFTP and a browser window with some bogus address that never finishes opening.

I am able to close the browser but not CoreFTP..... I have to close Coreftp by using the Task Manager everytime.

I can program one of the 5 MyFavs buttons to open up a browser by using this string.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

But when I try adding a URL after the above string it gives the error message and carries on to open Core

The Mail button works ok. That opens up IE and goes to my Yahoo mail sign in page... so I took a look at how that was setup in the Keyboard Properties.
All it has is the website URL which is how the Myfavs Buttons work when connected to my other PC system running XP.

Strange that the Myfavs buttons should need a different setup than any of the other shortcut buttons.... and why they open up Coreftp is beyond me as there is no reference to it in the key setups.

    Thanks,

    Steve

My apologies, the filename should also be double-quoted, because of the space in the path. Try it like this:

    Code:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "http://example.org"
I have just tested this exact string on my MS keyboard, and it works for me. Good luck!

    I tried entering your string
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.somewebsite.com"

All this did was set the key to open IE home page not the URL I entered in the string...... we are getting close to fixing this but still not quite there yet.... what a way to spend Christmas Eve lol

Thanks for your help.... if I don't here back from you have a great Christmas.

Hmmmmmm just thought..... aren't there too many "" in that string ?
There are 3 in it should'nt it be either 2 or 4 ?

LOL, the post editor ate the double-quote before the URL. Of course, there should be 4. Stupid rich editor. I edited it, now it should really be good :)

    Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard 4000 problems

    Background
    • Gateway DX430, 7M RAM, 1TB HDD, Windows 7 64b
    • Keyboard will not accept latest driver for W7 64b from MS
    • All keys work except favorites and zoom.
    • System was transfered from HP system running XP by ZINSTALL
    Action
    • Ran wizard to remove 5.3 driver which was from XP
    • Ran SFC / Scannow
    • 3 days of trying stuff
    • MS Tech next level support spent 45 minutes reloading including removing startup and services and concluded it was a driver incompatibility with Gateway.
Thought to run registry cleaner, thought best to ask here
    Thoughts?
