Overheated cabinet, thinking of using my stand fan... crazy idea?

I have a core 2 duo quadcore Intel CPU with 3ghz, a nvidia 1gb gpu with heatsink only..

I have only one processor fan installed, for months i faced overheating issue and decided to keep the chassis left open, for a month it was good now due to dust build up i believe the system is overheating immensely..

I have a big standfan with diameter larger then the cabinet which is not in use anymore...

if i place it in front of the motherboard would it cool the whole thing?

the fan has tremendous speed so i have to place it to appropriate distance so it does not harm the hardware.

    What do you think?

It may help, but it isn't a fix. You need to clean your PC, probably put new thermal paste, and likely replace the CPU cooler with something better. A CPU overheating means way higher then normal temps, and will shorten the life to say the least. A Guy

It could help providing it doesn't stir up even more dust. Sometimes raising the case off the floor or desk by an inch or two allows for better air circulation. This article gives some more suggestions.
