Toshiba Satellite Freezing after startup

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on what could possibly be wrong with my laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite L505 with Windows 7 64bit. After starting up and entering the log in screen my computer freezes. I can access and work the computer through safe mode with no problems. I've checked the drivers and all are fine but one. The hdaudbus.sys is updated but will not startup. Is this what is stopping my computer from running in normal mode? Also, I have reformatted the hard drive and have also reset the computer back to factory setting. I've also tried to downgrade to windows vista in hopes of it working. Nothing has solved the problem yet. I'm hoping for some advice on other things I can try in order to fix my laptop. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Nisha

Hello Nishaevo3d Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Besides a problematic driver you may be looking at a ram issue. If the hard drive isn't seeing a problem you could have a faulty sodimm causing your problems since you have been working with two different versions. Disabling all startups while booted in safe mode might help isolate any software/driver problem while the inspection of hardwares would be a thought as well.

How do I inspect the hardware? Is there a program or software that can tell me if there is an issue?

Memtest is one free memory stress testing program you can download in iso image form to burn to a cd-r made bootable during the burn. You boot live from that to let the stress tests run repeatedly for a few hours to see if you start seeing any number of errors being reported.

That comes in an option to create a bootable flash drive as well as booting from a live cd. Since that is an open source memory tester it's no surprize you would go to pendrivelinux to follow the guide for testing usb boot compatibility while able to run memtest in the process. Test if your system is capable of booting from a USB Device | USB Pen Drive Linux

For the hard drive most companies provide their own diagnostics program to scan the drive for things like bad sectors and other faults if a drive is starting to go on you. One review for several freeware type diagnostics programs including Seagate's Sea Tools, WD's Lifeguard is for WD drives only there, can be looked over at Best Free Hard Drive Health Monitoring and Diagnostic Programs

Hitachi, Samsung each have their own as well since most laptops tend to be using their drives. For general system information on all hardwares and even on the programs you are running the System Info for Windows(SIW) program is one of the best available. That one even shows some temps. Another is Speccy also a free program you can download and run for gathering up information overall.
