    Skype....I'm Confused

Hi Everyone -- I just got a new laptop and it has a webcam on it. I have never used one before so I was playing with it. I downloaded the Skype software and got the webcam to working. The program populated all my email contacts with the Skype addresses. On all of them it says something like "This person has not given you any information" or something to that effect. I am taking that to mean I have to get something from them before I can connect to them. How do I go about that? Any assistance in getting this thing going so I can see and hear someone is appreciated. Thanks,

Yes, from Outlook. The program ask me if I wanted to do that and just answered yes and all of a sudden I had about 50 Skype addresses. I am on Skype ==

Everyone on Skype has a Skype user name and password. This will often be different then their email address. You look them up, on Skype by their user name. Then you can see if they are online and if you can contact them.

So it will not be automatic in Outlook. I believe that you will need to email or phone them and ask for their Skype username and enter it manually.

Note: haven't used Skype in a while. Things may have changed.

The Skype software gave me everyone's Skype username from my Outlook. They are different than the email name. It seemed like the Skype software took their email address and cross referenced and found their Skype name. I am just not sure how I send a message to the other person on Skype that I want them to make me active so I can talk with them.

I use skype allmost everyday... You forst need to send them a message like 'hi' and they must answer you back. If they dont it wont let you video call them or do nothing apart from send them messages.the minjte they answer you ba k you can do everyhing like video call them.so basicly you have to send a message to them and they have to say anything back

Skype imports outlook email contacts (probably from addressbook). If that email address exists in skype database... they are added. Just dubbelclik on such a name. And then you can chat, video, screen sharing etc. What's the problem with that?

btw I added you to my skyp. Do you see me, or a request?

It's voluntary. It asks if you want to do that. If you say no, it won't.
