    Windows 7, 64-Bit scanner drivers

Although this PC's Windows Vista, 32-bit I've a Windows 7, 64-Bit PC on which I use an old, 32-Bit, Canon Canoscan N650U scanner. Like others in this SevenForum I too searched & searched endlessly for 64-Bit or TWAIN Driver to use my scanner. I finally decided it'd be less aggravating (wiser) to install Microsoft XP Virtual Mode & install original Canon N650U driver. Scanner works fine in XP Virtual Mode, however, I installed .pdf software in XP Virtual Mode that I'd already installed in Windows 7. VueScan software works in Windows 7, 64-Bit so I know it's possible to use scanner on 64-Bit OS. I refuse to buy software when, with some searching & resourcefulness I can use freeware, hence I didn't buy VueScan. I advise everyone to avoid using various so-called "free" programs that scan your PC to find drivers for you. I tried about 6 of them only to find each required that I pay (which I steadfastly refuse to do) to activate them. I trust those that read this message find it useful. I think we just need to hang around another 18 months for 64-Bit drivers to be more widely available.

Alas I have continued my search for Canon N650U Win7 64-bit (or 32-bit) driver freeware and have not found any. Perhaps an older version of VueScan (one no longer supported has been relegated to freeware and may then be used.
