Hi John. Can you clarify:
- Did you install the card, turn on the machine, but no "New Hardware Was Found" came up?
- Or did you install the card, then the driver, and it does not work?
A few thoughts:
- One of those sneaky auxiliary power connections (usually molex)
- Bad slot (try another one)
- Bad card (a brick)
Yep you were right mate there is a ruddy great Molex stuck on the end where I hadn't noticed it I might just replace it with a 4 x 2.0 recycled unit into a header as it will be trashy running just one Molex to that card (sits hard between the GPU and cooler rad) unless I can sneak in underneath the cooler from the back of the case somehow. :)
Am revisiting this one I am wondering - to save a heap of ugly large wires to get that Molex on the card hooked up I have some Molex to fan connectors and am wondering if I could use a fan header to supply the USB card.
Am not real sure of the voltage though. Have tried a few Googles but cannot make out if I am safe to do that. The connectors I have are short wires and will not "untidy" the case as there is a fan header close by.
Anyone please?
I would stick with the PSU for this and keep that full 12v load off the fan header but that's just me.
My other thought is give it a try and see if it powers the card reader in the first place, but I like to keep as much voltage off my mobo as possible.
Ok linne I will try and find a route in from the back somehow or even use a recycled 4 x 2.0 off the two remaining headers.
I reckon you are right and I had a gut feeling that told me I might be pushing my luck with fan header - was just trying to maintain the tidiness seeing everything else is.
Back to the grind LOL!!
Or do what I have done in the past when power supplies came with ridiculously short connectors: snip snip, twist twist, and tape an extension of the wires! I know you have old wires hanging around
