Windows 7: A small problem

My 500GB HDD just died on me as I was dealing with a bluey - well I think it's dead as it will not show up in DISKPART or My Computer.

So I have a Seagate 1TB spare that I aligned a while ago but it is not showing up in My Computer. The Partition Wizard is telling it has two partitions one the 100MB I set up the other is showing unallocated and I don't know what my next step is can someone give me a shove in the right direction please?

First I gotta ask, what is a "bluey"?

Are both of these drives data drives, or does either have an OS installed? The 100MB partition is normally an OS active partition. If the computer boots from another drive then Windows will ignore that active partition. And since the rest of the drive is unallocated it won't show up as a drive.

But you can see this drive in Partition Wizard? What does Windows Disk Management show? What does the BIOS show?

Sorry TV a) I know so many now I cannot remember if your name if you ever gave it to me

and b) have a bad Aussie habit I have picked up of nicknaming just about everything.

So the bluey is a blue screen error no my OS is on a SSD and yes the fresh drive it shows up in Partition Wizard and Windows Disk manage as the 100MB partition the rest is unallocated.

I did a clean all last night and redone the alignment thinking it would show up but nothing.

Now I Googled for what seemed like hours yesterday but couldn't find any simple answer to getting this drive to work to transfer excess data from the SSD and keep it relatively "clean".

Right click on the unallowcated black partition, format it & assign a Drive letter to it. Then you will be able to copy files to it.

Woo hoo!! thanks Doc worked like magic I was a bit perplexed at first with simple volume etc stuff as I am more hardware orientated than with the "innards" of the beast though one day it might just click (right or left LOL!!)
