Perplexed !! Hi there,
Just a slight problem...for the past 3 years I have used my P/B pc with Linux Ubuntu O/S, together with my Maxtor 3200 ext HD, not a moments trouble.
Two days ago I re installed Windows 7 64bit O/S on my PC, and my ext HD is no where to be found, the device manager says its there and working perfectly, but its no where to be seen,
.
Please can some kind person point me in the right direction to find it, it works OK when I connect it to my laptop. but back on my PC its back to playing hide and seek.

Try in the device manager, uninstalling the device and unplug the usb cable. Then reboot the system and reconnect the device and see it that doesn't work for you. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card XFX Radeon HD 6790 D Sound Card On board RealTek HD Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors:Samsung SyncMaster S20B300 Screen Resolution 1600 X 900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Ultra X4 750 watt fully modular Case Thermaltake Overseer RX 1 full tower Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

Thanks for the reply, did as you suggested, it reloaded the ext HD and its there in devize manager and it tells me its loaded and working correctly BUT I still can not find the bloody thing anywhere.
When I check on my computer it just shows the "C" drive and my DVD drive.
When I look in devises and printers its listed there but no where else!!!!!! except device manager.

Right click computer, select manage, in the left column select disk management. In the bottom half, see if it is there. If so, right click the bottom portion on the drive, select 'change drive letter or path', next screen select add. Give it a drive letter. If it wants to format it, don't do it. You will lose everything on the drive. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built- Always under construction OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64/ linux in VM CPU Intel i7-3770K Motherboard Asus Maximus V Extreme Z77 Memory 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3-2400 (2X4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GTX 670 SC 4GB Sound Card On Board Monitor(s) Displays Asus 24" LCD Screen Resolution 1920X1080 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU CORSAIR AX850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Custom Water Cooling Hard Drives Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 830 256GB, Samsung HD103SJ 1TB . Darn! I thought it would. Have you tried connecting the drive and restarting the computer? And do other USB devices work on the computer? I'm sure you have installed the chipset drivers for your motherboard. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built- Always under construction OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 X64/ linux in VM CPU Intel i7-3770K Motherboard Asus Maximus V Extreme Z77 Memory 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3-2400 (2X4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GTX 670 SC 4GB Sound Card On Board Monitor(s) Displays Asus 24" LCD Screen Resolution 1920X1080 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Logitech G500 PSU CORSAIR AX850 Case Cooler Master HAF X Cooling Custom Water Cooling Hard Drives Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB, Samsung 830 256GB, Samsung HD103SJ 1TB . Everything works fine except the ext HD, I have even disconnected the wireless printer and reconnected using the same USB connection and that works fine, so its got me beat.
When I used Linux I installed WinXP as a VM and the ext HD worked OK, so its got to be something in Windows 7 that's causing the problem???? | My System Specs | | |
