as long as you aren't OC it any paste with a brand on it will be fine. The only ones that suck even without OC are the ones without name you get from shady cheapo dealers or with cheapo parts fromsovietChina.
This is a fairly comprehensive review and the method they use of the two heavy lines would seem to be the best for the OP's new cooler or the thin credit card spread?

If you click the MX-2 link in the video, it will show you how it reacts to different methods. Arctic MX-2/4 spreads out very easily and in my opinion needs the BB or "pea" method as they call it. It covers the cores completely, but doesn't get close enough to the edges to cause any problems. Tried and true method.
Just finished pulling the Intel stock CPU from my PC in preparation to installing the new one, which should be here early next week. I noticed that the thermal paste that was applied by the PC maker was just a thick glob and from what I understand, it is best to have a thin layer. It was possibly the reason the CPU temps were running hotter than they should have.
I would seriously doubt that the factory applied thermal paste was to blame. In most cases the paste/compound will need to cycle in with some heat and cooling sessions. Many suggest running a program that runs the temps up on your CPU to make this break in and seasoning process quicker. Will you get lower temps with a properly applied premium paste.....yes....will it lower the temps by some fantastic number.......highly unlikely. If after some long sessions the temps haven't dropped then maybe look to the way the cooler was installed and or other case air issues. Nice slow even tightening of the cooler down to the CPU is key. I'm not for a moment saying you installed the cooler wrong but when setting the cooler down and tightening, this isn't the time to work fast. I like to allow the cooler to be wiggled to aid the spreading out of the compound and then tighten the screws evenly to a semi tight position then allow the paste to spread more, maybe another little wiggle. Then slowly tighten evenly side to side till fully seated and tight. Slow and steady.....and less is more rules always apply to my cooler installations.
