Screensaver, display off then back on - cycle

Hello. I don't know how to appropriately describe this so here goes.

When I leave my system, the screen saver turns on in approx. 4-5 minutes. Then a couple minutes later, the displays turn off. (My computer never goes into sleep mode).

After several minutes (it varies, 1, 5, 10 minutes) the displays turn themselves back on and I'm on the desktop once again without even touching the system.

This happened to me a while back and then I formatted. After that, this issue went away but now it's starting again and it's annoying the hell out of me!

I have checked ALL settings and adjusted them all here and there to try and sovle this issue. I would hate to physically turn both my monitors on and off each time since they are at the far back of my desk and hard to reach.

does anybody have any thoughts on this?

thanks!!!
