SATA 2 and SATA 3 Question

Hello everyone. I am going to buy this Hard drive enclosure Amazon.com: Dynex DX-HD303513 USB 3.0 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Enclosure Kit: Everything Else today and I was wanting to know. If a SATA 3 drive will work in this since it only says SATA 1 and SATA 2. I know SATA 3 is backwards compatibility with SATA 1 and 2 on motherboard but I don't know it its the same for enclosures. So can someone help me?

Your SATA 3 drive will work in the enclosure at SATA 2 speed.

My question: if you are buying a new enclosure, and you have SATA3 drives, why are you looking at SATA2 enclosures at all?

I run a couple of WD SATAIII HDDs from my Thermaltake USB 3 HDD dock with no problems, so would think it should be the same for you with a USB 3 HDD enclosure.

Hey LittleJay. Curious: Is you dock rated for SATA3? Are you getting near full USB 3.0 speed from the SATA3 drives?

Because I can't find any cheap ones on Amazon. All the ones I find are docks and I don't think a dock is made for running 24/7.

After viewing the link you posted to the hard drive enclosure, I see no mention of sata types at all.

I've looked up the Model number and found the manual and the manual says it.

Yes it is rated for USB 3 and my transfer rates are generally in the 120 to 160 Gbs/sec when moving files. I also have older SATA 1 and SATA 2 HDD's which I run from the USB 3 HDD dock and those transfer speeds are a bit slower, but still not bad. I love it, because it makes system imaging from my Windows 7 installation, which runs from a SATA III SSD really fast.

You know, after looking at the specs a little more closely, I think I am just splitting hairs in any real world sense.
I think you will be fine with that enclosure.
