Windows 7: 5 Year Warranty on WD drives???

I dug out the box one of my WD HDDs came in (yes, I save them, at least a few of them, in case I have to ship one back since suppliers often require that goods being returned in the original packaging; WD is no exception according to the warranty sheet) and checked the warranty sheet (talk about fine print; I had to dig out the old magnifier) and found this, "To help us keep you informed of new features and services, remember to register your product online at http://register.wdc.com." I take that to include notifications of recalls and/or needed firmware updates. I have yet to be spammed by WD.

I still feel that you are being overly concerned but you are the one who paid for the HDD so you do what you want. Sorry I tried to help.

In some states, that is actually illegal.
Which ones?

I dunno... it is in mine, which is all I need to know about.

You have to go research consumer laws in all 50 states. I do know the FTC has rules about warranty claims and have been known to slap multi-million dollar fines on companies for making claims and not honoring them and even for misleading claims that muddy the waters so consumers don't really know what the warranty policy is since it is presented in a confusing manner.

The FTC website would be a good resource to look in to that. Good luck!

Would a 1 year warranty be sufficient for desktop ?
I just need opinions, If I was going to buy a desktop computer, should I spend more money and get the extended 2,3 or 4 year warranty ? Or should I just stick with the standard 1 year. Compared to a notebook, a desktop is obviously less prone to damages, obviously due to not transporting it...
