    A question about SSD sizes

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to using a 7mm vs 9.5mm thickness SSD drive?

I understand the screw holes line up the same (for adapter brackets in a desktop PC), and the 7mm are designed for ultra-thin laptops, but is there any compelling reason to buy one type vs the other for a desktop? For a laptop?

To the best of my knowledge, no. The SSD is the same, just different form factor. For a laptop, some only accept 7mm, they cannot fit a 9mm SSD. I think that is the reason there are 2 sizes. A laptop made for 9mm I hear, takes an adapter to fit a 7mm. But, both sizes are the same SSD. In a desktop, it does not matter.

    Thanks Steve!
I was wondering if you could fit 3 in a tray or something!

No, I have a couple of 3.5" adapters that allow you to fit 2 but I don't think I've seen one that will fit 3. BTW, I only use them for 1. They are so close together it is a PITA to just work on 1 of them without removing them both.

    That is good to know.

True what Steve said, the SATA power connector gets in the way. I like to use the 90 degree SATA data connector to be neater and they would not fit at all with two in one adapter.

That annoys me as well. Why can't PSU manufacturers make the SATA power leads the same way as the older Molex types, with the wires coming straight out from the back of the connector and not to the side.

If stuck with a PSU SATA power supply cable that has punch down connectors, one might be able to use an inline Y type splitter to feed two SDDs in a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting adapter.
