afs.sys is on your system? Most likely in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

The AFS driver adds CD recording functionality to certain versions of the following software:You did use any of that software?

It appears that the AFS driver does not meet Windows Vista driver signing requirements and thus is not compatible with Vista. As a result, the AFS driver prevents the GEARAspiWDM.sys driver from functioning correctly resulting in CD/DVD drives ‘disappearing’ in Windows Explorer and applications using the GEARworks API, such as Apple iTunes and Norton Ghost.

No afs.sys driver. Have a afd.sys driver though. Unless the UpperFilter I added is/will somehow prevent the IDE DVD drive from working properly I had the iTunes error fixed.

What happens if you rename upperfilters to tmpUpperFilters and reboot afterwards. DVD is listed in disk management?

afd.sys is something else, and needed by windows!

I don't know what would happen if I renamed with tmp. No, DVD is still not recognized by Windows. Although it is still detected in boot screen.

I had this error. I installed ITunes and a 3rd party Theme pack for itunes. After that, My DVD drive would never show in devices, but it would in Bios.

Removed Itunes and the skin, Then deleted the REG keys associated with Itunes - rebooted, and my dvd drive worked fine.

Gave up on trying to figure this one out. Just frustrates me not being able to use a $70 IDE drive. If it's this complicated to use the only IDE connection on my mobo I won't be trying to use it again.
